Jim Cramer Can't Catch a Break

The Sheinhardt Wig Company, through its subsidiary GE, found a bus and shoved poor Jim under it this morning. Under the pretense of "synergy", the mothership had Cramer and Street Sweetie Erin Burnett show up on Today for some coffee klatch with Meredith Viera. Of course, the show producers, clearly under the duress, sold Jim out. It gets painful around the 3:30 mark when Meredith cuts to a clip of the Jon Stewart killing Cramer some more. The split screen, and Jim's sinking face is what makes it all worth it.

This just in, Sheinhardt is now making Cramer show up on the Daily Show this coming Thursday in attempt to put an end to all hostilities. I think the segment will include Immelt running on stage and giving Jim a wedgie.

Update(Wednesday Morning):
This is unfair. It's like kicking a dude when down.
Stewart on Dora the Explorer, ragging on cnbc, at the 730 mark is particularly funny

Pupulist Rants

The world is completely upside down. A handful of traders eating lunch at their desk on the Chicago Merchantile Exchage are the silent majority? I'm not so sure. Sure, not all these dudes make millions of dollars a year but that's still a pretty small sample we are working with here.

As hilarious as this is, I think this is a time for sober thinking and time for a little less of this us vs. them mentality that seems to lead to endless hand wringing on cable news channels.

Outside of Jamie Dimon, I have yet to hear of anyone super pumped about the need for economic stimulus or a housing bail out. But don't we have to think about the alternatives and the people involved. I'm not willing to call everyone who can't pay their mortgage nefarious or a loser. Some are actual victims of giant systematic mess. I'm also not ready to call everyone who works at bank or hedge fund a villain in this madness, lots of them are losing their jobs too.

Is there still an opportunity to soft land housing markets that are in total collapse? I have no idea.

I think its good to not nationalize a bunch of stuff though, that would be a sign of total collapse if I could ever saw one. Meanwhile while we try to take some of the pain out of this, maybe the world will start sorting itself out.

Why We Aren't Ready for Great Depression 2.0

Like a lot of people, I'm really really freaked out by some of the dismal predictions people have for 2009 and beyond. I get a double dose of Depression speak though, because in addition to scanning all of the mainstream media I happen to have a wife whose job it is to forecast just how bad the shitstorm will be. So, she spends all day predicting the scale of the disaster before us, and that's what I get for pillow talk before I fall asleep each night.

So I've had ample opportunity to come to the conclusion that I don't have the emotional means to deal with the worst case scenarios. I'm a real sissy when it comes to confronting bad news. And then to exacerbate my anxiety, I opened the paper the other day and saw this image from Great Depression 1.0. WTF! Look at that line. It's so perfect it almost looks staged. Does anyone among us really have the discipline or temperance to stand in a line that perfect? Look at it! They are all huddled against the each other as though their shoe laces are tied together. And how much skill does it take to leave 30% of the sidewalk free (presumably for all the rich people that don't need to stand in line)?

I don't go to McDonald's very often, but it's probably the best proxy we have for something like this, and I can assure you our collective line standing ability has suffered mightily with all of these decades of wealth and affluence. Obama would be wise to go ahead and name a Line Czar, because we're going to need one.

Shake your fanny, we want Manny

The scene on Friday November 3, 2008, outside the New York Mets' Offices in the new Citi Field, sponsored by Citibank.

It's sad to see how the unemployed spend their days....I curse these recessionary times.

I'm just glad no one was hurt. Mr. Wilpon has the look of a terrified airplane hostage in the early 80s.

Special thanks to Baron Von Hayes for tracking this down for us...

The best part of the recession

I love the recession because I love watching CNBC and being able to watch cnbc gets me in the gym more. I love just chilling on an elliptical watching people comment on the markets, standing down on the floor with people shouting behind them. It's just great.

CNBC pushed that to the next level by bringing in Maria Bartiromo several years ago. In anticipation of the present down cycle they have been stacking the deck introducing several more chicks to stare at...here are a few of my favorites
